These kinds of tombs exist in few other places of Mediterranean but it is quite unique that there are so many in Rome and reason is the particular stone ‘tufa’ that can be easily excavated. A word about the Catacombs: it is not true that these were places of refuge from persecution, but simply unique burial grounds. |
